oh how i wish i could sew.....

now i can say i have.....

i have been admiring those cute pillowcase dresses that a lot of blogging mommas and g-mommas make for the young girls in their lives. i finally decided it was time to sit down at our 8 year old brand new (i had never used it, altho hubby had, once) sewing machine and try to make one for our granddaughter. i found these cute little notions at the sewing store and they inspired me even more to get my sewing on.

found a couple yards of fabric at the thrift store instead of searching any further for a non-existent cute vintage pillow case. where do all these sewers of those cute dresses find them? surely, i could turn this fabric into a pillowcase shape with a few stitches. i was able to....:)

the white cotton fabric had a lovely flower textured pattern....very sweet.

4 hours later...i know most sewers could make this in like ummmm... 30 minutes...a sweet little pillowcase dress for our granddaughter, courtney.

we went to visit her this past weekend....and it was just a wee bit big for the sweet little love.....but i am sure it can easily be altered, right? i see my first attempt at alterations in my future already when she comes to visit us ......and the sewing machine.

  1. Soooo fun! Ha! I should have said SEW fun!
I made those for my grandbabies last Easter. I can't remember if I blogged it or not.
I couldn't find any cute vintage pillowcases either so I just made it up as I went.
Hooray for you for cranking up the sewing machine. Is it in your blood now? Have you already started a list of sewing projects? :)

  2. Thank you so very much for visiting my blog and leaving that encouraging comment. (Hmm, was the encouragement from you wanting to follow my crazy ramblings or was it because you've survived so far with three boys?)

The dress is adorable and truthfully, so is your granddaughter. I've been sewing for years and I am so impressed! Even more so that you feel that you can adjust it (a huge downfall of mine!)

I read through a bit of your blog yesterday and really enjoyed it. I, also, love your title picture. Raindrops on the water is a favorite thing of mine too!

    Love, Katy Noelle

  5. Good for you! I'm proud of you for getting that machine out and using it! That precious little one will remember those things that you do for her as she grows older and they will be such precious memories.

  7. Hi DJ,
Thank you so much for your encouraging comments on my last two posts. I really appreciate it. The idea of planting a tree or flower in my Grandma's memory is a great one...thank you for that.

And...this dress is so sweet and you did a great job. Your grand-daughter is a cutie too.
